Boat Fishing Trip On Southern Island

March 11, 2019 by admin

Went out to Changi Village last night for a late supper. Nothing much to choose as I arrived around 1 AM. All the nice food already sold out. Just get myself a packet of nasi lemak because my appetite changed to fresh parrot fish 😉 .  Luckily GT stills open so bought some live prawn for our early morning boat fishing trip.

Preparing The Tackle For The Boat Fishing Trip

Most of the time anglers like myself are eager to start fishing once we step our foot on the boat fishing trip. Nothing else on the mind, just want to get the first fish and then landed the most. Don’t kanchong la bro and sis.

This happened to me most of the time, now not anymore. All started when one day, I realised that having a proper setup and having a standby setup help to save time. I always set up one 1 set and ready to fish. Sadly, only when my line got snag or sangkut, then I tie FG knot with a Shimano Bobin for my leader.

There is some downtime when we do this, especially when the fishes are biting. We become more khancong and anyhow do. During this time, I will miss some good chance of catching fish because I need to re-tie the leader and prepare the tenya.

Whenever possible, bring 2 sets of tackle. Ideally, you should prepare 2 sets, ready and loaded lol. So you can immediately change to the second set should your main set caught in the snag or sangkut. Get all your tenya ready in a slit meiho container.

I Caught Nothing On This Tenya Fishing Trip

One of the hardest day for my fishing charter Singapore trip. Tried tenya, appolo and nikko soft baits. Started with my normal tenya setup for this trip but had no luck at all. The rest of the anglers on board caught fish with tenya but not me. I changed to applo rig also no bite. Next, I use the Nikko soft baits also no luck. I even tried a combination of Tenya, Appolo Rig & Nikko I call that “Tenikopolo” also no luck!

Other anglers landed parrot fish, spanish flag, parrot fish, grouper, ah seng and sweetlips. Not everyday Sunday I guess although the boat fishing trip was on a Sunday 😉 .

Tenya Fishing Boat Trip At Southern Island

March 6, 2019 by admin

It was just a normal Sunday morning and we had an early breakfast near Jalan Sultan. We had bone steak (tulang merah), mee goreng and kwey teow goreng. It was a heavy breakfast. During the breakfast, we shared some of the best tight lines moments during the previous tenya fishing boat trip and wanted somewhat similar to happen on this trip.  Once done, we proceed to collect our live prawns.

Preparing for the tenya fishing trip

Arrived at the marina and it was still dark. Unpack the live prawns to the live baitwell and crush ice to the cooler box.

Everyone was busy setting up their own light tackle. My setup for this trip, Graphiteleader Indivi rod and Shimano conquest 210. I use PE 1.0 and Toray size 3 fluorocarbon leader. As for the Tenya, I picked size 12 Palms ChaCha (The Dancing Tenya) Pink my favourite. For more information on tenya fishing setup and recommendations, you may take a look here.

First light tenya fishing boat trip

It was less than 5 minutes for us to reach the 1st fishing spot on the southern island. Lines down said cpt Ron. Fish ON! Oh no! Line burst! What a start. The wind was strong and we were drifting fast. Lines up and we went back to the starting point.

Landed a few small fishes and the wind was getting stronger so we decided to move to another tenya fishing spot.

Arrived at the fishing charter Singapore location and we drifted a couple of times but there was no bite. We change to a few fishing spots but still was not getting any bite.

It was one of the toughest day and all of us work really hard but still no luck. Ok, last spot said the skipper. We arrived and started fishing once the skipper said lines down.

Fish On! I could hear the drag screaming at the bow of the boat. His rod was on bended knees 😉 At last, some action I said. It was a good fight and managed to land the golden snapper abt 2kg. Nice catch!

Lines Up said Cpt Ron. We move back to the starting point and started fishing. Fish ON! This time it took my tenya setup. Was a hard fight and landed 1.5kg sweetlips. Phew, what a day.

We landed a few more fishies and call it a day. The Fishes was not biting in the morning and we, as a result, get a happy ending at the end during this tenya fishing boat trip!

Tenya Fishing Trip Southern Islands With Cpt Ron

March 4, 2019 by admin

Recently I went out for a Tenya fishing trip Southern Islands with my family and friends and all of us had fun.

As usual, meet up at Changi Village for breakfast. Some of us have nasi lemak, lontong and mee siam for breakfast. I also did pack some epok epok sardine and again nasi lemak for lunch. Remember to buy me some epok epok sardine when you join us for a fishing trip.

What We Bring For Boat Tenya Fishing Trip Southern Islands

From Changi Village, we proceed to fishing buddy east branch (520 Sims Ave, #01-05) to get some Tenya and live prawns for the trip. We bought about 2.5kg of live prawns. As for the tenya, we use Cha Cha by Angler’s Republic size 10 – 14 and my personal favourite colours pink, green and red. In addition, I also bought the fluorocarbon leader by Toray.

What Size And Colour For The Tenya Cha Cha

For boat tenya fishing trip Southern Island, I usually use tenya size 10 and pink colour for start. You will need to change the tenya size from time to time base on the speed of the current and drifting. On a windy day and fast current, you may need to start with size 12.

As recommended by Faz on tenya setup you will need good sinking PE lines. I use PE 1.2 in most cases and Toray leader size 4. For the rod, I am using the invidi rod by Graphiteleader & Shimano conquest 201.

How To Tenya Fishing

Fishing Trip Southern IslandsThere are so many articles and video on this subject. So I am not going to rewrite everything in details. I will just share what I do for all my Fishing Trip Southern Islands, tenya fishing trip.

Firstly you need to seek for a bit of advice from the captain/skipper. They know the ground well than you. Don’t be shy, just ask they will be more than happy to help.

For me, I will always wait for the signal “Lines Down” or whatever commands the captain/skipper give for you to start fishing. Once I hear that I will take an additional 45 seconds before I let my lines down. Please don’t rush the captain/skipper usually stop ahead of the desired fishing spot so you will have time.

Once I hit the ground, I will reel a few cranks 2 – 3 full crank and then start bouncing for about 10 to 15 times. If there is no bite after my 15 bounce, I will release my line till it hit the ground again and I repeat the step to crank 2 – 3 full crank and bounce again. That’s it no secret.

You don’t have to hit the ground all the times, that is why I crack 2 -3 times and start bouncing. There are fishies suspended above the ground, they don’t stay exactly at the ground at all times.

Keep on bouncing, join us for the next Fishing Trip Southern Islands!

Boat Fishing Trip Singapore To Catch My Fish For Dinner

March 1, 2019 by admin

Woke up today and craving for Hong Kong style coral trout. Yum yum, it has been a while that I had this for dinner. Still can’t forget my first coral trout on Nikko soft bait during my previous boat fishing trip Singapore!

So itch and wanted to catch some more coral trout on soft baits for dinner.

Nikkor Soft Baits

Getting Ready For The Tenya & Nikko Soft Baits

Called Yusof and ask if he is working today. Good news he just came back from night shift and today is his off day. So I ask him to join me to catch a coral trout for dinner.

We went to fishingbuddy to grab 300g of live prawns (just in case the fish don’t eat the soft baits) & some new Nikko soft baits. Hurry guys the stock are running low.

Fish Are Not Biting

Arrived at the marina and the weather looks good but the wind is still strong. We set up our light fishing tackle and off we go to our usual first boat fishing trip Singapore spot. Lines down and fish on. It was my first drop and straight away fish on and managed to land a sweetlips. Wow, that gave us hope 😉 .

Lines down again but this time I had to wait for quite sometime before I caught my second fish, a parrot fish.

We lost quite a number of tenya cha cha and also the Nikko soft baits. The wind is too strong and we drifted to fast and had a lot of sangkut.

It was a low bite and we moved to several spots and the fish just don’t want to eat. After about 3 hours we landed about 4 fishes. The wind started blowing strong and we call it a day.

My Dinner, All Freshly Caught

I steamed the spanish flag, tiga rasa for the sweetlips and sashimi the parrot fish!

Nikko Soft Baits – The Next Generation Soft Baits

February 27, 2019 by admin

Went out on a short fishing trip, to try out the Nikko Soft Baits that was given by Faz from FishingBuddy. Thank William & Faz for the gift.

I was given an 8″ Octopus – UV Solid Red Black Flake. UV fluorescent, scented, floating soft baits from Nikko. So I called it Project Faz.

First Time On Nikko Soft Baits

I have never use any Nikko Soft Baits for my fishing trip. Looking at the 8″ Octopus – UV Solid Red Black Flake makes me want to try it out as soon as possible. So I contacted my kakis and arrange for a short fishing boat trip.

Went for a nice breakfast at Changi Village. Once done with our breakfast, we went to the tackle shop nearby to grab some assist hooks & live prawns. Just in case the fish don’t eat the soft bait so I can use live bait.

Getting Ready With Nikko Soft Baits

Nikkor Soft Baits8″ Octopus – UV Solid Red Black Flake was the only 1 pcs I have, so better not lose it. Bought a size 7 ball sinker and inserted to the top head of the octopus. Insert my leader through the 8″ Octopus and tie it the assist hooks (for madai). That’s all and off we go.

Off we go to the usual fishing spot on the southern island. I was on the Nikko soft baits while my other kakis on Tenya with live prawn. Lines down said Cpt Ron. Tried a few times but the fish did not take the tenya and nikko soft baits. Lines up and off we move to other spot.

The fish was not bitting well but we did not give up. Shortly Isman caught the first fish on tenya. Nothing on Nikko yet, so I still keep on bouncing like the way I do tenya. Again fish on said Isman, it was his second catch of the day and I have nothing.

Bouncing the Nikko soft baits up and down on my GraphiteLeader Protone slow fall rod and patience is what it takes 😉 . On the third spot is where I caught my first fish on a soft bait! It was a good fight and I was very happy to land a coral trout!

I will be using this Nikko soft baits on tenya jigs on future fishing trips. Do look out for the catch report.
